The Kansas City Marathon is a race run the 3rd Saturday of every October in Kansas City, Missouri, USA. It is the second largest marathon in Missouri, with over 1200 finishers in 2008.〔(Kansas City Marathon :: Races - Kansas City Marathon )〕 An official time from the Kansas City Marathon can be used to qualify for the Boston Marathon. While the course varies from year to year, it generally involves running from Crown Center through downtown, turning to Midtown to Westport. From Westport it continues on to the Plaza out to Waldo, returning to the 18th and Vine district and ending in the Freighthouse district in Midtown. It includes a 5K race and a half-marathon in addition to the traditional marathon race. The half-marathon starts and finishes at the same locations as the full marathon, and runs on the same day. Total participation for all weekend events neared 6,000 in 2008. The 2013 overall winner was Geoffrey Kiprotich with a course record time of 2:24:56. The female course record holder is Rael Murrey, with a time of 2:53:04. In order to run in the Kansas City Full Marathon, one must be eighteen years or older on the date of the marathon.
